You have just released your debut EP Dead Like Money… and so much of it reminds me of hot, carefree summers in Brooklyn. And making out with boys. What do you want people to get from your music?

Wow! You nailed it right on the head. Dead Like Money is definitely about relationships, sex, struggle, discovery, and making out with boys. I want people to get…a sense of confidence…that it’s ok to speak your mind no matter how fucked up your thoughts are.

It is starting to get really difficult to keep in touch with friends and family, so, every now and then I like to publicly put everything out there in this crazy, crazy digital world. It’s been a while since my last real blog post, so on this peaceful night under the Arizona moon I am here to say What’s up.

I am currently in Scottsdale shooting a short film with fashion producer/editor Amber Elliot for Style.com. So many clothes, so many pairs of sunglasses, so many shoes that don’t fit. My head is spinning and floating like a balloon over my body as I work (model) on this project, not completely sure what is going on – - but it’s all about faith, and letting filmmakers and the fashion cats do their magic.

During lunch, a friend instagrammed “@seasickmama and @bigwilldrums famous in London”…it was a photo of drummer Will Fegan and myself in Hero Magazine and our interviews. I was slightly bothered by the fact the photographer, Michael Avedon, chose to use a picture of only Will’s torso and not his stunning face…but then I realized…we are in the magazine to talk about our music, not to be models. Plus, we have bigger opportunities to focus on! Seasick Mama is playing in the Dominican Republic on May 4th for the Festival Bacanalia.

While we are in the DR, we will also be shooting a music video for a new single called “Man Overboard” with director Jay Bulger. (Jay Bulger is the award winning director of Beware of Mr. Baker..) The single & video combo will be released sometime in June…and to follow a brand new EP titled, Tip Top Shape.

This sophomore EP features musical collaborations with Peter Wade (MNDR), Sam Farrar (Phantom Planet), Dave Sitek (TV on the Radio), and Joel Shearer (Pedestrian).

It seems like a lot, but I am grateful for my team, my friends, and family. Thank you for all the continuos support, positive comments, and kind emails…keep em coming! I love you all and keep your eyes peal for when all the madness unfolds.

It has been months since Seasick Mama last performance, and she is ready to fly. This Saturday April 20th, Seasick Mama will be taking the stage at Cameo ( 93 N 6th Street, Williamsburg, and she couldn’t be anymore excited to share new songs! Seasick has been working on a new EP, and is gonna leak a few new summer jams to the audience this weekend.

The first 30 people to buy tickets will receive a free copy of her latest EP, Dead Like Money. (All press is invited to attend with a complementary ticket and EP. Please RSVP to seasickmamanyc@gmail.com)

Seasick will also be sharing the stage with Teen Girl Scientist Monthly, Pink Drink, and Double King. Tickets $8 ADV $10 DR.

Marial Maher is the leading lady of Brooklyn-based indie pop collective Seasick Mama. The titular track off her debut EP, Dead Like Money (produced with help by Mark Turrigiano), begins as a faceoff between Trent Reznor’s industrial pop sound and Portishead’s hankering electronic vibes. It quickly mellows out as it transitions into a groovy bass line and filtered vocals evocative of early 90s alternative rock with a modern pop twist.

She then breaks it down with an infectiously catchy chorus, but not before asking the important question, “Do I have to pay for this!?” While she’s not referring to your purchase of her new EP (since the song’s lyrics refer to the newfound rigors of fame), the question remains: why wouldn’t you want to?

Just to be clear, Seasick Mama is not encouraging people to live a work-free lifestyle with her single “Quit Your Job“. Instead she’s implying that one should never settle for a position or place that makes them unhappy. It’s an idea; it’s an attitude, a mantra to never settle.

Today, we are happy to introduce the rest of Seasick Mama’s story with her debut EP Dead Like Money. After a year in the making, produced by Mark Turrigiano, DLM truly expresses Seasick Mama’s desire to not be bound by one idea. Each song stands on its own as a snapshot of our past, present, and future. “It offers a variety pack of introspective emotions. Regardless of brutally honest lyrics, it also feels like freedom” (Star News).

The seven song EP (available on iTunes) pushes expression and freedom to new levels. It is a true tale of Seasick Mama, that she will not be bound by the conventions of our day. “[Dead Like Money] says a lot about what this woman can achieve in the following months” (The Wild Magazine).
